Dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC by LUMTEC) is a device consisting of a porous layer of titanium dioxide nanoparticles coated with a molecular dye, a redox couple and a metal (Pt) counter-electrode that produces electricity. The PCE (Power Conversion Efficiency) performance is still low (13%), but R&D is very active in developing these low-cost devices.
