| Research reveals exotic quantum states in double-layer graphene |
| Researchers from Brown and Columbia Universities have demonstrated previously unknown states of matter that arise in double-layer stacks of graphene, a two-dimensional nanomaterial. These new states, known as the fractional quantum Hall effect, arise from the complex interactions of electrons both within and across graphene layers. |

| Wilfrid Prellier, Director of the CRISMAT laboratory in Caen |
Question 1: Could you briefly introduce the laboratory you direct and describe the CIBOX project? The Crismat Laboratory, established in 1986, is a crystallography and materials science laboratory under the joint supervision of the CNRS, ENSICAEN, and UNICAEN. We are one of the leading European research laboratories in the field of sustainable, smart materials with remarkable properties. We produce approximately 120 ACL publications per year and have received numerous awards, including the Solid State Chemistry Prize in 2018. Regarding the CIBOX project, the main objective of this three-year project is to establish a sustainable French production of oxide targets with improvements in reproducibility, purity, density, homogeneity, and cost. |
